Just a Small Teaser for my Next Video Theme
I have been working on several theme concepts over the past few weeks, but for whatever reason I just can’t stay away from video themes. Ever since Hulu.com launched a few months back, I thought it would be cool to design a theme for WordPress inspired by the now very popular video site. Below is just a small teaser of what I came up with.
This theme has no official name yet, but I figured I would post a small screenshot to get some feedback. Video themes seem to be rising in popularity since I released VideoFlick and VideoElements, but I am hoping to break the mold even more with this latest concept. This is still a work in progress and I guarantee that a few things will change as I get into it, but let me know what you think either way. You can view a full screen version here.

looks cool, jason! what i would like to see in one of your new themes is something like “similar” or “related” videos instead/in addition of “popular video”. you know what i mean
cheers,
mic

Mic… I will definitely incorporate that into single post pages within this theme. Thanks for the suggestion.

Looks really sharp Jason. Great content management and overall simplicity. Good luck with this one!

Again, flippin’ amazing. I’ve come to expect it from you now.
One thing that I would love to see, functionality-wise, would be an AJAX implementation of the “Latest videos in” pop-up menu. I mean, it would be really slick if when you choose a different category the page content/thumbnails just reloads those posts.
Does that make sense? I don’t know if it’s even possible within the WP framework but it sure would be a nice touch.
Page reloads stink.

looks very nice Jason

Jay… Good suggestion, I will keep that in mind for the release.

coolll…plan on making any new magazine/community themes?

Look great Jason. I only don’t like that RSS Icon. Is very used at this time, in many blogs.
Keep up!

Hey jason, your work is amazing. one thing though. can you please try to incorporate this into your theme (and video gallery/flick themes as well):
http://code.google.com/apis/youtube/chromeless_player_reference.html
chromeless player script
or send out something to add…because i have no idea how to do it
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Paulo… I agree and will be changing the RSS icon within my next revision as well as several other things.
Sunny… I will look into the chromeless player script.

Thanks! another suggestion… an upload option for guests to the site or people who sign up (i.e. video producers) to upload their video file in addition to videos being pulled from other sites…

You should also do a layout to display like themes and layouts for wordpress or myspace and other things. i need one of those myself

Looks perfect Jason. I am not intended to use a Video theme but this screenshot which you posted here hits the spot.

Hoping that the theme turns out to be a cool theme just like video flick and video elements…..

Looks nice, but one request: do posting as standard as possible. In WP Elements (which I bought but I am not using), the posts are very “special”, meaning that you have to enter a lot of information in a non-usual way: the embeded code goes in a personalized field, same for the picture, etc. And that has the huge problem of not been able to change to a different theme in the future.
I’d rather prefer a theme that allows me to post the “normal” embeded code from blip and that takes the thumbnail from it, for instance, so if I change themes in the future I do not have to worry too much. I have a couple of video sites with hundreds of videos each, mostly HD. Commiting to a theme forever is too much of a risk.
But it looks good ……

That’s amazing!
On the subject of video themes, have you seen quommunication’s latest offering?
Worth a look.
May 3rd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
That look truly amazing! Very nice job. Love the Hulu look.

Fantastic layout as always.
Just wanted to reiterate what Sunny suggested.
It would be great if you could incorporate something that allows guests/registered users to upload videos too such as (add video) which would allow a site to grow beyond just the site owner having to add videos.
Great work Jason.

Fantastic! If u give it at a special price like the others theme, I will buy this too!!!
And now my suggest:
What about to put a kind of carousel with lastest videos like that on Mimbo Pro theme? (demo: http://mimbo.prothemedesign.com/)?
May 4th, 2008 at 11:38 am
orobi,
i think the carousel idea defeats the purpose of the much larger video screen player carousel above (hence the arrows on the right and left of ironman)
just my .2 pesos
May 4th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Yes, but I think the larger carousel is… too much “larger”! I believe a carousel MimboPro or youtube will be more useful. Just my 2 cents
May 4th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Ok, now I realize: I see in the preview that the carousel contain the videoplayer. Fantastic!
Yes, please Jason take the player into the home, like the preview!
May 5th, 2008 at 5:32 am
Sunny, Orobi… What you see as a carousel is actually the primary video viewer, not just an image. The arrows allow you to view the next and previous videos.

Hi Jason! It is perfect theme, let me know when it is for sale!
May 5th, 2008 at 8:46 am
Hi Jason
I can’t get Hulu in the UK, but I love the use of the share and embed icons on the main post (inspired by moblogic?) and just what I’m looking for on a current project. You’re ahead of the game again Jason.
Ummm, any sign of a release date?
May 5th, 2008 at 9:07 am
Steven… I actually have another video theme in the works that I plan on releasing first (within the next two weeks). The Hulu inspired theme will come directly after that. I am thinking closer to the end of the month.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Awesome theme Jason. This combines the features from your previous video themes (most popular, most recent, browsing by category, and thumbnails) and adds the one item I desperately wanted, which is the current video playing at the top of the main page. Perfect.
Can’t wait till you release it.
(BTW the Quommunication video theme is $95 for a single site, and doesn’t include thumbnails.)

How will the single post page display in the Hulu type theme?
In your Video Elements theme, it is like a typical WP post where you see the video with some post text and you can embed ads or widgets such as those from Amazon.com. I am hoping the single post page has the Hulu type theme look but brings in the post text as well as anything else embedded in the post. Being able to have customized slide show Amazon widgets within each post would be exactly what I am looking for.
Any insights on the masterpiece in process?

do you have a date to release this theme? i have a video blog with my own self hoste flv clips…and colaborators. Good work! leo
