Introducing the “Video Elements” WordPress Theme v1.0

Previously titled the “WPE Video Gallery Theme“, “Video Elements” is now ready for purchase. This theme has been on my back for at least 2 months now, and I finally just had to sit down and finish it. You will notice that a few things have changed from the concept design to the final product, but I think you will be happy with the end result.

Video Elements

A Video Gallery Style WordPress Theme

Video Elements was designed with the video blogger in mind featuring traditional and gallery style layout options, a fully wigitized and customizable sidebar, “Instant View” for viewing videos on the fly and much more.

Just like my VideoFlick theme, Video Elements comes with a fully integrated and customized version of “mediabox” developed by Iaian7. Click a thumbnail and the video of your choice is launched in a full screen “ajax” window. Currently, this feature supports several video formats including Flickr Video, MySpace Video, Revver, Veoh, Viddler and Vimeo, YouTube, Google Video, MetaCafe, DailyMotion, FLV (Flash) Video, Quicktime and Windows Media Video.

It’s All About The Video

Video Elements allows you to embed your videos in two different ways, including the “Instant View” which allows users to instantly view any video on your site by selecting the video thumbnail, and within the single post page where the video is featured right above your post description.

I have included optional theme files that allows you to eliminate the “Instant View” feature entirely. If you choose to disable “Instant View”, post thumbnails will link directly to your single video post pages.

Featured Videos in Two Places

The Video Elements theme allows you to feature your best videos in 2 different places including at the top of the page within the coverflow, as well as within the featured video list on the sidebar. The top coverflow list can be controlled directly through the theme options page. Just add your thumbnail, description and link, and the theme takes care of the rest. For the sideblog list, simply create a category called “Featured”. Any post that is part of the “Featured” category will be displayed within the sideblog video list.

Two Different Layout Styles

GalleryVideo Elements includes two ways of displaying videos including the traditional linear layout as well as an optional gallery layout. You can choose one or the other, or even both together. I have created a live demo so that you can see exactly what the theme can do. Click here to view the live demo for “Video Elements”.

Installation and Usage

Upon purchase and download, you will most likely will want some direction on how to install and use the Video Elements theme. Please refer to the “Installation and Usage” pdf document included with your theme package. I have linked a live version of this document here for your reference.

Requirements, Limitations and Unknowns

The star ratings feature of the Video Elements theme requires that you download and activate the WP-PostRatings plugin by Lester Chan. Once activated, please refer to the ratings configuration instructions found within the Video Elements user guide.

The Video Elements theme has been tested on WordPress versions 2.3 and 2.5 ONLY. Any limitations or problems with using this theme on anything below 2.3 are unknown and unsupported.

The Video Elements theme has been tested and is fully compatible with the more popular web browsers including FireFox, IE6.0, IE7.0, Safari and Opera. Any limitations or problems caused by other browsers are unknown and unsupported.

Please leave credit where credit is due. Please DO NOT remove the WPelements.com reference found within the theme footer.

Video Elements Theme - Single Site License ($25.00)

The Video Elements Single Site License gives you the right to use Video Elements on a single website. You can also modify the theme as per your requirements, but you must leave the “wpelements.com” footer link in tact. Any future upgrades or revisions to this theme will be free of charge for anyone that has purchased the original Video Elements theme.

Video Elements Theme - Multi Site License ($75.00)

UPDATE:
For those that purchased the Video Elements theme before April 11th, I have released an update that fixes two bugs found in the initial release including the “clearing of coverflow settings” as well as the “pagination issue” found within the gallery.php page template. I have sent all of you re-download links via e-junkie, or you can download the patched files here.

DESIGN NOTES:
The first thing you might notice is that I eliminated the 3 column footer shown in the original theme concept. The reason behind this is that there was just too much information on one screen which made the theme much too cluttered. Also, I played with several “coverflow” options for the featured video bar at the top, but there were so many issues (browser compatibility, integration problems, etc.) with most of them that I stuck with my original implementation.

    Hello people & J

Great theme. Is the gallery above the posts (featured) going to toggle left or right if you have more than five videos . (sorry for my english )

    Thank you

  5. jange Says:

    Bought

    Very nice, thanks ;)

  6. Matt Says:

    Hi,

How come in the demo version, you get different videos depending on whether you click on the thumbnail next to a post or click through to the full post (this is for the Flash video posts)?

For instance, if I click on the image next to the top-most post on the homepage (titled “Another Sample Flash Video”), I get the Hancock video but if I click through to the corresponding post, the video that appears there is a Vimeo video titled “3100 Miles Teaser Trailer 1: Wet”.

Just wondering if this is a glitch with the theme or just with the demo, or just with me??

  7. Jason Says:

Matt… That is just the way I made the demo posts. Nothing wrong with the theme, I was just trying to show the flexibility of the different type of videos you can post and where you can post them.

  8. Cool Says:

Great bought it today and I just use it for my movie review site.

  9. John Says:

Hey Jason, you had talk about using this theme for images, how is that done. Is that included in this theme?

I’m thinking of purchasing it, but I needed for images more so then videos.

Is there an example to use the JW Media Player 3.16 with the midroll advertisement? Otherwise If I posting a video…: Are the Custom fields the right places to set up the flashvars of the JW Mediaplayer?

  11. JayR Says:

WOW Awesome work and for only $25 bucks? It should at least be $50. Stop selling yourself short!

  12. Jason Says:

Jayr… Thanks, and I hope you enjoy the theme. I will be releasing a few more free themes within the next month followed by another “premium” theme release.

  13. Prem Says:

Awesome theme dude…..I bought your video flick theme the other day. Now i feel i should have waited for this :). Nonetheless, great work and looking forward to your future themes.

  14. Mª José Says:

    Thanks!

  15. Mª José Says:

There is a problem when shrinking the videos of dailymotion, when doing it in swf, loses the HD

  16. Mª José Says:

  17. Mic Says:

  19. Jason Says:

Robin… Thanks, glad you like the theme. Much more to come over the next few months.

  20. Quer optimizar o seu website? Says:

Hello Jason. I’m getting a little problem here.
When i make a new post, with the picture, video in and imbeded video, my coverflow bar gets dressed. Every moment i make a change or save a new post, i lost everything i do in coverflow bar, including the images, links and texts there.

There’s any bug in this situation? Can you take a look please?

    Regards,
    Paulo

  21. Jason Says:

I have tested the theme on several different installs of WordPress 2.3 and 2.5 with no bugs or issues like the one you are talking about. Have you modified the theme files?

  22. Mª José Says:

To my it happens to me the same. Wordpress 2.5. Modified the navigation bar

  23. Jeff Says:

    I have also bought both

    Top class!!! Thank you

  24. Jason Says:

Mª José, Paulo… Again, I just ran two more tests on brand new wordpress installs (2.3 and 2.5) and can not reproduce the problem you are having. What plugins are your running? Also, exactly how have you modified the theme?

  25. Jack Says:

The near perfect theme. Thanks… Does pretty much everything I need it to.

  26. Mª José Says:

I believe that the problem is when you do not put the 5 images. If you use 2 or 3 they disappear. If you use the 5, all this perfect one. Sorry. I do not speak ingles and use a translator. He is horrible!

  27. Jay Says:

Hi Jason I need your help.
I’m trying to adapt some posts with your theme but when updating the “Video Elements Options ” it’s ok for a while but for an unknown reason everything clear itself.
    a chmod error? Anything else?

  28. Quer optimizar o seu website? Says:

Jason i’m getting this problem and i don’t know why.
I made some tweaks on the theme but none of them in that coverflow bar. I didnt’t touched in any piece of that code.
I changed the Home link to an image with the link embeded and that’s almost all.

Can i send you and email so we can talk about this private? I can also send you the project i’m bulding and we could see the problem live.

    Regards
    Paulo

  29. Mª José Says:

The continuous problem. When publishing an entrance disappears the videos

  30. Jason Says:

Jay, Paulo, Mª José, etc… I still have not been able to duplicate this issue, but I did find something in the functions.php file that might be causing your problem. I have updated the Video Elements package on e-junkie. You all should still be able to re-download the package. Please do so, and overwrite your current theme files. If you have any other issue, please send me and email at jason@wpelements.com.

  31. Mª José Says:

    Thanks, everything ok

  32. Steven Sonsino Says:

Hi Jason and thanks for releasing this. I appreciate you made some changes to the original concept, but it’s still a great theme for video blogging. Massive News and Flick themes are possible to tweak, but this takes things a level higher.

I agree with the comment about the price. $25??? It’s a ridiculous price when some themes are twice or three times that with far less value. Anyone who doesn’t get their credit card out of their wallet right now is insane.

I dread to think what you’re working on now… *groan*

  33. Quer Optimizar o seu Website? Says:

Jason, i have translated all the theme to portuguese. Can you tell me what files you have modified so i can’t need to translate everything again?

    Thanks in advance.
    Paulo

  34. Jason Says:

Paulo… The only theme file I changed is functions.php.

  35. gokhan Says:

Wery good theme prince good Thanks in advance

  36. Jason Says:

  37. Malcolm Says:

I am liking this theme a lot, and just bought it, but I had a question. I don’t always get good embed code from some of the video sites I use, so I have been using another flash embed plugin that allows you to enter the actual filename/url of the video in the format [flash ] . I have tried using this for the videoembed key, but it just literally prints the above to the screen, rather than using the other plugin to embed the video. Any idea how I could get this to work?

    Keep up the great work!

  38. Sunny Says:

    hey jason,

check out the coverflow at the top of this website.. it may help you figure it out for this template:

  39. ec Says:

    Hi, great theme!

I was considering building a minisite with drupal but I might switch to wp…
    I just have 2 questions:

    1. Would it be possible to post videos in videostreaming (WMC format) from a different server?

    2. From a grafic perspective, how customizable is the coverflow bar? Would it be possible to change the color? Or would this spoil the reflection effect at the bottom of the 5 pictures?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  40. Jason Says:

    EC…

Probably would have to edit the theme a bit to get WMC to work from a media server.

The coverflow (including reflection) is handled by javascript, so you can change colors, etc. all you like.

  41. Orobi Says:

Hi Jason! I’d like to buy this theme too, It looks really cool.
But I need to display not only video but also image gallery.

Example: click on the THUMB or the TITLE of the post and open in a NEW PAGE a post with a photo gallery (I’d like to use nextgen gallery plugin).

Is it possible? How can I put a different icon (onclick) for video and gallerythumbs?
Example: Video icons = “play icon” Gallery icons = (maybe a mini pic or a lens)

Let me know, I wanna buy your great theme!!!

  42. Orobi Says:

    Jason… another question :)
I’d like to have in the home posts that links to a page with two or more videos.

Example: click on the VIDEO THUMB or on the TITLE on the single post in home page and you will redirect to the article page. The article page will contain the text of the post and 2 or 3 (or more) clickable video-thumbs that open in a pop-up linked videos.

Is it possible? If it is… SOLD for me!!!

  43. Hi Man Says:

Hi, I just buy your theme and now have 1 problem. Videos not display from thumbnail. Can you help me? Or tell me what’s the reason?

  44. Cool_Try_to_write_here_3 Says:

Hello, is it possible to change the footer, especcially to change the WPelements Link?

  45. Orobi Says:

No, the link and name of Jason have to stay!!!!! Why do u want to delete them?

  46. Jason Says:

Cool… I would appreciate that you leave the WPelements.com reference somewhere within the theme. I don’t care if you move it, but it should be there somewhere.

Hi Mann… Please read the usage instructions that are included within your theme package.

Orobi… In order to convert this theme to work as an image/video gallery together, you will have to edit several theme files and create another page template. Guess what I am saying is that anything can be done, but it’s just going to take a little work.

  47. Cool Says:

Is there a version to buy, which includes the deletion of the copyright link in the footer?

  48. Jason Says:

Cool… I added a second purchase option which allows you to use VideoFlick on multiple sites as well as remove the footer link.

  49. John Says:

Jason - very nice template. Congrats on the good work. Will you have a version for displaying images?

    DemoPit

  50. Jay Says:

Ok, my website is ok now, with the fully gravatar support, even in the posts.
Many thsnks for your great theme Jasaon. And I aggree that the support of videos, images, external links should be a great upgrade ;)

  51. Jason Says:

John… I am working on a image gallery theme, but it probably will not look like the Video Elements theme.

  52. Cool Says:

    My Version of the mediabox:
    http://glooble.net/demo/demo4.htm

  53. gokhan Says:

My media bok new wersion +

    single license 25 $ ideal prince +

    multi license 75 $ +

    good theme

  54. Orobi Says:

    @Cool

How to add watermark to any video like your example (http://glooble.net/demo/demo4.htm).
I saw your watermark even on video streamed from other sources… it’s fantastic.
    Can you help me?

  55. Malcolm Says:

I still am looking for a way to use another flash player plugin, rather than putting full embed code in the videoembed custom key. How can I change the way this key is handled to accomplish this?

    thanks

  56. Malcolm Says:

I am getting weird background colors behind the rating stars in the sidebar widget…I thought I saw a place to change this, and now I can’t find it?

  57. Joris Says:

How can I play windows media files in de mediabox? Or is that not possible at al?

  58. WordSkill Says:

Visiting your demo with Firefox 3.05b on OS X, the first entry on the homepage, “Another Sample Flash Video”, the picture of the guy with the sunglasses is out of place, popping slightly out of the box and then remains in exactly the same place on other pages, where it shouldn’t even be i.e. the sunglasses guy appears over the video or content of other pages that I click through to from the home page.

Bug does not appear in Safari OS X.

A pity that you couldn’t get Coverflow to work, it would have been a perfect feature for this theme. Have you considered just using browser detection and allowing it to appear for the main browsers that don’t have problems with it?

  59. Jason Says:

Malcolm… to change the star ratings BG color, simply edit or change the actual star pack yu use.

Joris… WMV is supported by this theme. Please refer to the instructions.

WordSkill… The next version of the theme will include a fully functional coverflow. Of course, all updates to the theme are free of charge.

  60. Orobi Says:

Great! Hope to see a nextgen carousel for the next version :)
I’m trying to make different kind of post (gallery and video)!

  61. quietleader Says:

a question about Video Elements: Is it possible to add a sub-title or tag-line just below the logo? What would be the best way to do that?

    Many thanks!
    W.

  62. hombrelobo Says:

Is it possible to change the width of the entries ?

Most videobloggers are using now 640 px wide, and some moving to 720px.

Is it possible to adjust the width of the posts easily to 640px ?

    Thanks, looks great

  63. Jason Says:

hombrelobo… My next video theme will be able to handle videos of any size. But feel free to edit VideoElements however you want to fit your video size.

  64. Mª Jose Says:

it is possible to count visits a videolink?

  65. Malcolm Says:

Thanks Jason. I have actually changed the images of the stars, but they are still showing up with a white background, which makes me wonder if they are using a class that I may have changed, or something along those lines…any more ideas?

    thanks

  66. Jason Says:

Malcolm… No, the stars have no class associated with them, they will pick up whatever background color you use in the actual image file.

  67. Orobi Says:

    Hi Jason!
Is there a way to embed videso from Vidawee plugin? (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-vidavee-film-manager/)
I can of course post vidawee videos on my single posts, but I’d like to embed them from meta like other kind of videos.
    Can you help me? Tnks!

  68. Bilal Says:

Malcolm, in the plugins homepage there is an usage explanation.

Note: In IE, some of the post ratings’ text may appear jagged (this is normal in IE). To solve this issue,

    1. Open postratings-css.css
    2. Find:

    /* background-color: #ffffff; */

    3. Replace:

    background-color: #ffffff;

Where #ffffff should be your background color for the poll.

Im not sure but maybe u can fix this way.

  69. quietleader Says:

    Jason,
Is it possible to add a sub-title or tag-line just below the logo?

    Thanks,
    W.

  70. Matt Says:

    Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that your amazing Video Elements theme to my list of the best Wordpress theme available on the net, at http://www.bestwpthemes.com

    Great work!

  71. Mehdi Says:

    great theme,
but are we supposed to insert thumbnail ourself?
this makes it really difficult !!
because , sites have different thumbnails .

  72. Jason Says:

Mehdi… Not sure I understand your question. How else would you expect to add thumbnails to your site?

  73. AndrewE Says:

    Hi Jason,

I know you took out the footer elements in this theme due to an overload of information, but I notice that the footer css code is still intact. I’d actually quite like to use a footer section for a site I’m building with your theme. Is there any chance you might be able to release a footer.php file that makes use of the css code in the theme? Chances are you may still even have the old footer.php file from your mockup.

It would really be a great help if you could do this. Thanks very much indeed.

    Andrew.

P.s. any news on the updated version of the videoelements theme?

  74. Jason Says:

AndrewE… I don’t have the original footer.php file from the mockup, but I do have the html if you want it.

  75. AndrewE Says:

Jason, yes please do send me the html if that’s ok with you. My email is obviously linked to this comment :)

    Thanks very much indeed.

  76. Jason Says:

AndrewE… You can download the original footer code at the link below.

    http://www.wpelements.com/downloads/VE-Footer.zip

  77. AndrewE Says:

Thanks a lot Jason, that’s great.

  78. Sunny Says:

can i use this theme for a pornstar website?… I dont see anywhere that it says we can’t but I thought I would ask to be polite

  79. Jason Says:

Sunny… You buy it, you can use it for anything you want. Thanks for being polite though.

  80. Eric Says:

lol wow thats a question you don’t see everyday :)

  81. Anastasios Says:

Hi. I am trying to embed a flash video .flv to my site but I can’t. That means thatI don’t write the code properly or the embed custom firld does not work or something else is wrong. Could any body help me. Here is the embed code:

Do you see any problem. If you want to take a look at the post it is here: http://greekhollywoodreporter.tv/?p=23

    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

  82. AndrewE Says:

My apologies for the obvious self promotion but I thought I’d point out that I launched my videoelements powered flash game arcade today. Proof that it doesn’t just have to be about video:)

    http://www.craverz.com

It’s still in beta and there’s a ton of bugs to work out, but the main frame is there. Take a look.

Thanks again to Jason for providing the backbone of the whole thing.

  83. Malcolm Says:

Any word on when the next version of this will be ready?

  84. Jason Says:

@Malcolm… This theme is only a month old. There probably will not be another version for a little while. I have several other themes I am looking to release before I work on second versions of previously released themes.

@Anastasios… Please refer to the usage instructions on how to properly embed flv’s.

@AndrewE… Great work. It’s cool to see how you put your own personal touch on the theme.
