Introducing the “VideoFlick” WordPress Theme v1.0
To say the least, I have been hard at work on several projects this last few months including websites, business plans, proposals, and of course WordPress themes. Since the release of one of my latest projects called TrailerFlick.com, I have received several emails and inquiries about the design. After several offers from miscellaneous users to purchase the theme and even the site, I finally decided to build and release a new WordPress theme called “VideoFlick” which was designed directly after the TrailerFlick theme.

A Video Gallery Style WordPress Theme
VideoFlick is a video gallery style WordPress theme including a fully integrated and customized version of “mediabox” developed by Iaian7. VideoFlick features a galley style layout with a primarily thumbnail based navigation scheme. Simply click a thumbnail and the video of your choice is launched in a full screen “ajax” window. Currently, VideoFlick supports several video formats including Flickr Video, MySpace Video, Revver, Veoh, Viddler and Vimeo, YouTube, Google Video, MetaCafe, DailyMotion, FLV (Flash) Video, Quicktime and Windows Media Video.
Other Features
The VideoFlick theme is obviously centered around video blogging, but unlike the TrailerFlick theme, VideoFlick allows you to add a full description for each post. Simply click the post title to go to the single post page to read more about the video. I have also integrated a fully wigitized sidebar which allows you to customize how users interact with your VideoFlick enabled WordPress site.
Four Layout and Color Styles
The VideoFlick package includes four different layout and color styles which allows you to fully customize the look and feel of your video gallery. These styles include portrait and landscape thumbnail layouts, as well as dark and light color schemes. Simply choose the style you wish to use from the design menu and you are good to go.
I have created a live demo so that you can see exactly what the theme can do. When viewing the demo, you can also cycle through the different theme styles by using the theme switcher in the sidebar. Click here to view the live demo for VideoFlick.
Installation and Usage
Upon purchase and download, you will most likely will want some direction on how to install and use the VideoFlick theme. Please refer to the “Installation and Usage” pdf document included with your theme package.
Limitations, Unknowns and Requirements
The VideoFlick theme has been fully tested on WordPress versions 2.3 and 2.5 ONLY. Any limitations or problems with using the theme on anything below version 2.3 are unknown and unsupported.
The VideoFlick theme has been tested and is fully compatible with the more popular web browsers including FireFox, IE6.0 and above, Safari and Opera. Any limitations or problems caused by other browsers are unknown and unsupported.
The VideoFlick theme lists static pages (ie: about us, etc) at the very top of the site, but you are limited to 3 pages. Any more than 3 static pages will break the page layout.
Please leave credit where credit is due. Please DO NOT remove the WPelements.com reference found within the theme footer.
VideoFlick Theme - Single Site License ($25.00)
The VideoFlick Single Site License gives you the right to use VideoFlick on a single website. You can also modify the theme as per your requirements, but you must leave the “wpelements.com” footer link in tact. Any future upgrades or revisions to this theme will be free of charge for anyone that has purchased the original VideoFlick theme.
VideoFlick Theme - Multi Site License ($75.00)
The VideoFlick Multi Site License gives you the right to use VideoFlick on a as many sites as you like. You can modify the theme as per your requirements, including removing the footer link. Any future upgrades or revisions to this theme will be free of charge for anyone that has purchased the original Video Elements theme.
Many of you have been asking me if I can help modify the VideoFlick theme to work with the popular WP-PostRatings plugin by Lester Chan. Instead of modifying and re-releasing the theme, I figured I would just show you how to do it on your own in three easy steps.
First, open “style.css” and add the following code at the very bottom.
#theratings img{
width:auto;
height:auto;
position:static;
}
Next, open “index.php”, find “<p><?php the_content_rss(); ?></p>” and replace it with the following code.
<div id="theratings">
<p><?php if(function_exists(’the_ratings’)) { the_ratings(); } ?></p>
</div>
Finally, open “single.php”, find “<p><?php the_time('F jS, Y') ?></p>” and replace it with the following code.
<div id="theratings">
<p><?php if(function_exists(’the_ratings’)) { the_ratings(); } ?></p>
</div>

Hi,
Can you edit the size of thumbnail make bigger? lets says weight= 300 and height= 700?.
Also if I put java script between thumbnail, will it break the template?

April 3rd, 2008 at 11:01 pm

April 4th, 2008 at 1:58 am
Is there a way to watch video into a new page (not over the browser)?
And, can I add on the left column the thumbails of latest video added and most viewed?
tnks!
April 4th, 2008 at 5:45 am
I’ve bought it, It’s very very nice and clean!
For some help we must use this post or we have a forum?
April 4th, 2008 at 6:09 am
Mas… If you purchase the theme, I would be happy to customize it for you. Just let me know what you need done, and I will give you a quote for the job.
Bilal… I would ask that you leave the WPelements.com site link somewhere in the theme. Footer or Sidebar makes no difference to me as long as it is there somewhere.
Jay… The WPE Gallery theme is still on target. You should consider this as a separate project.
Orobi… All these things are possible to do. If you need help customizing the theme, just let me know. Please do use this post for questions.
Garri-Son… Thanks for your comments. My original intention was to sell the theme for $49.95, but I had a change of heart. I think this work is more appreciated at the donationware price.
April 4th, 2008 at 6:34 am
Many tnks!
I can make the graphics for boxes, but I need help with css…
To start I’d like to have boxes for movie flyers like that one on http://www.TrailerFlick.com !
April 4th, 2008 at 9:41 am
hey,
i would like to use this theme for my design-portfolio. is it possible to set only image-files like jpgs or pngs and no not to lightbox them? because i would like to have this overview an link every thumb to an seperate post/site, where the description of the project is.
if this works, i will purchase for this great theme.
thx, hazel
April 4th, 2008 at 10:00 am
Hazel… This would take some editing, but is pretty simple to do.
April 4th, 2008 at 10:06 am
great work as always Jason. Im sitting here trying to find something i can use it for so i can buy it
April 4th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
hi jason, i see you released it. thanks!
e-junkie is down , send me a mail with your paypal address so i can send you the money.
best, daniel
April 4th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Hi Jason. When i put a picture in a post or a page the play button appears like the movie posters. How can i disable it.And can i add post ratings to the main page under the posters.thanks again..
April 4th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Daniel… e-junkie seem to be back up. Give it another try.
Bilal… You just need to remove one script in the header called “imagelink.js”. That should disable the image link script.
April 4th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
still probs with e-junkie ;(
April 4th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Rog… Seem to be very inconsistent today, but it is back up as of right now.
April 4th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Jason, awesome theme. I purchased it. I would not had mind paying $49.99, it’s worth it.

jason
any chance you can add a subscribe to comments? oh and works perfect with images only! only prob is the mediabox pops the image up with a big gap at the top so you have to scroll to see the bottom of the popped up image!

Hi again! I’d like to add a rating plugin for the movies (this looks great: http://sneak.co.nz/plugins/ds-rating). I’d like to have the stars bar rating under ever flyer on the home page. How can I do that?
tnks!
April 4th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Hi. I downloaded the theme yesterday and really loved it. I can find a way to add an image (ad) at #lbBottomContainer of the media box in the css. However I cannot find the way to link it to another site. Jason, or anybody else could you help please.
Thank you in advance!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Orobi, i guess you dont need css for the boxes.I changed the item_background_dark.png only and it seems ok to me..you can check it in my site.
April 5th, 2008 at 2:21 am
@Bibal: tnks, I will edit the boxes.
@Jason: I have problem on Title and Text of movie-post: I want more space to display title of movie and description. I’d like to have 2 lines for title and 3 line for description (so I can insert: Cast, Director and Genre).
Someone can help me?
April 5th, 2008 at 2:25 am
This is the scheme I’d like to have for a more complete trailer-site:
Flyer
Title of movie (max 2 lines)
Director (1 line)
Cast (max 2 lines)
Genre (1 line)
Rating + Comments (1 line)
tnks for help…!
April 5th, 2008 at 2:29 am
I’m trying on Style.css, I can put the overflow visible and the adjust the height of the text!
April 5th, 2008 at 4:49 am
Ok, pleased to see that wpegallery will be released!
But do you any idea of when? In one day, one week, one month?
April 5th, 2008 at 4:49 am
anyone else having wp 2.5 not always save the custom field entries? so you have to go in and enter them a second time?
April 5th, 2008 at 6:38 am
ROG, yes WP2.5 will not save the CUSTOMER FIELD entry. You would have to save your post and come back and re-enter. Notice how SLOW the new WP2.5 is.
So, I reverted back to the old (WP2.3.3) version for now until they fixes the bugs. And, several of the plugins were not working properly.

Hi again!
I’m using the WP-Post Rating (http://lesterchan.net/wordpress/readme/wp-postratings.html), but I’m having trouble with template.
I just want to display stars-rating bar under the info and before the comments on every single posts. But, when I insert the function into the index.php, the stars-bar is not displayed correctly.
I’ve also put the function call outside the container, but the results is… template broken.
Some screenshot to explain my problems…

Rafa… PLEASE refer to the “Installation & Usage” document included with your download package. I guarantee you will find all the answers to your questions there.
Orobi… I am working on a version of this theme with the WP-Post Ratings plugin integrated. Stay tuned.
April 7th, 2008 at 6:25 am
For us who already purchased the theme, will we be able to get the update with the WP-Post Ratings plugin integrated?
April 7th, 2008 at 6:35 am
Tnks… But now what I’m gonna do to try use this plugin? Edit style.css?
I’m waiting for your VideoFlick1.1
April 7th, 2008 at 7:07 am
Macrike… VideoFlick with WP Post Ratings integration will actually be released as an option, not a version revision. I want to keep them separate because many people will not want the confusion of the post ratings plugin, plus I have to change quite a bit of my CSS from the original to accommodate the plugin.
April 7th, 2008 at 7:30 am
Hi Jason,
Great theme! I’ve just purchased it and I cannot wait to test and experiment with it. I’ll keep you posted once I got my site online.
April 7th, 2008 at 7:40 am
OK, thanks for the reply. I’ll be posting a link of the site I’m using the theme with as soon as it’s ready for the public. Thanks again for such a wonderful theme.
April 7th, 2008 at 8:40 am
Thanks Dulce… Your themes are great as well…
April 7th, 2008 at 10:01 am
Hey Jason great job! I was wondering if there was a way to use pictures rather then just videos? I have an idea that I would like to use it for if I could use pictures rather then videos. Thanks alot. also looking forward to your other video gallery template as well!!

April 7th, 2008 at 6:44 pm

April 7th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
is there a way to add a banner on the top of the video (ligthbox) ???
April 8th, 2008 at 4:01 am
Im only have 2.50, on my PayPlal… Im not using it… Wil it be ok?
Maybe some sell ^_^
April 8th, 2008 at 7:33 am
Can we link to Myspace videos? I’m really interested in purchasing this theme.
April 8th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Any way to have a default “poster” used? So, if I were to post from my iPhone or just couldn’t upload an image a specific image would be used as a placeholder or something?
I tried just uploading an image and having it link to the actual post instead of popping up a video or whatever but when you go into the actual post, the ?”poster” isn’t displaying in the specific spot and, instead, displaying where my posts content would be. And, of course, my post isn’t there.
Any ideas?
MAIN SITE (Rant&Rave post is example): http://star9design.com/
April 8th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I was wondering if it was possible when a User click on the video or picture if it was possible to link it to the parent site or source where the video or picture came from?
April 8th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Jason, you’re so generous. Thank you.
April 8th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Tnks again, now the rating is very nice to this theme.
I want to make a media theme so I need to make movie and pictures posts.
I saw the Mr Snoop site, very good: to insert a picture we just have to post the link into the meta “videolink”.
But my problem is: I want not just to link a single picture, I want to link a gallery (or a smoothgallery) via the “nextgen gallery plugin”, the best pics gallery in wordpress.
I need the gallery opened in a popup window, just like the movies.
Can you help me?
Many tnks!
April 8th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Jayr, I think you could accomplish that with the help of CSS. I’m not sure, but try adding the default poster you want as a background image on the .item img key. Something like:
.item img { background: url(images/default.jpg) no-repeat; }
Just make sure it’s the correct size and all.
April 8th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
MACRIKE: Thanks for the idea but it didn’t work.
I’ll keep at it thought!
April 9th, 2008 at 6:42 am
Anyone know if there is a way to integrate the Content Gallery into the site properly? Looks like there is a CSS z-index conflict somewhere as the Gallery isn’t “hidden” when the video plays.
EXAMPLE: http://star9design.com/
(on a side note, the “posters” are all tests. Some with trailers, some just text posts and some just images. I’ve smashed up all of WPE’s stuff! Or I’m trying that is.)
April 9th, 2008 at 7:23 am
I think we have to make 2 kind of post template: one for the video, one for the image gallery (like nextgen gallery plugin).
I don’t know what kind of meta I ad to add in order to display a nextgen plugin photo gallery (to be correct: a Nextgen Smooth Gallery into a pop-up window!)
@Jayr: I saw you add smooth gallery, I think it can be useful, but I believe it’s better to make it about half in width and put on the other half of the page a box with some news or other kinds of things.
April 10th, 2008 at 1:00 am
hi, I just purchased your theme, but the excerpt for the image does not work…
can you help? cheers, erik
April 10th, 2008 at 8:50 am
Hi, Jason
I just purchased this nice theme and implement it to my blog.
I tried to add WP-PostRatings and followed your instruction but it was failed.
The same happen as @OROBI the stars-bar is not displayed correctly.
Any clue to make it work?
April 11th, 2008 at 10:44 am

April 12th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Hey Jason, i have a question. When my .flv video loads, I see that it connects to http://www.wpelements.com, it loads the player from your site and then only the video loads. Could you tell me how i can change that somewhere. Also from where do u download high quality flv trailers?
April 12th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
PREM: open the file mediabox68.js on the scripts folder and change the “playerpath”
April 12th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Hi, is it allowed to change the footer and the wpelements Link?
April 12th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Hi, is it allowed to change the footer and the wpelements Link?
Why you delete the post, Jason? Just answer, please!
April 12th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Erik… Please refer to the usage instructions included with your theme everything you need is in those instructions.
Ronny… You have to configure the ratings options to change the way the stars are displayed.
Bilal… You could add a specific category by editing the files directly. Simply copy the code for the home link.
Prem… The flv player is hard coded to the one hosed on wpelements.com. You can store it on your site and change the settings found in the “scripts/mediabox68.js” file.
Try to ask 4th time… Sorry man, but it’s been a busy few days. Please leave the reference link to WPelements.com somewhere in the theme. Thanks.
April 12th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
hey.you can read the answer of jason to me.i ask the same question before maybe u dont see in the comments:
“Bilal… I would ask that you leave the WPelements.com site link somewhere in the theme. Footer or Sidebar makes no difference to me as long as it is there somewhere.”
April 13th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Hi man, I just buy your theme and find, that you 404 Error doesn’t work. Do you what is the reason and if you have a decision, please tell me!
April 13th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Lyubomir… Are you asking about a 404 page within the theme? Or did something go wrong during the payment process? If you are talking about a 404 page within the theme, that is a good catch, and I will add one today and update the product package.
April 15th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Hello Jason, I was wondering if it would be possible to implement something like the wordtube plugin (http://alexrabe.boelinger.com/wordpress-plugins/wordtube/) to insert media? Or something similar to have a standard size flv player that stretches all video so that all you have to do is insert a link in a post and the plugin will convert the code to insert the flv player? I’ve read through all the comments and haven’t seen this addressed, overall i would just like to eliminate the need to add 3 custom fields to each post, which i have to look up the video width and length, etc…
April 16th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Hi Jasaon,
I’ve noticed that the theme comes with more than 60 XHTML Validadion errors (at least when I bought it, it did). I’ve fixed them myself on my own site, but I thought you should know just in case you overlooked that problem or something.
Regards.
April 16th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Thank you for your short answer. But, I can’t still do it for myself. Better that you write an instruction how to configure it.
Consider to look my blog and see rating images isn’t shown. Those only shows black block. I’m ready to add donation when you help until this is work.
April 16th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Macrike… I am aware of the validation issue and will be releasing a revision with validated code soon.
Jason
April 16th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Where can we download revisions as the come out?
April 16th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Jamison… You, along with anyone else that purchased the theme, will receive notification via email when VideoFlick (or any other purchased theme) has been revised or updated. This notification will include a new download link.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
very beautiful theme, since i dont use wordpress that much, i had to convert this theme into a normal html template :d,
when i get rich i’ll pay u the 25 plus more
April 20th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Soogal… Are you telling me you copied the code/css/js from my demo and created an HTML template for your own use. If so, that isn’t cool…
April 20th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Jason, again… loving this theme!
I seem to have run into an issue though: On my sidebar I have the categories listed (via the built-in widget) and it goes to the right page and all but it lists ALL of my posts, not just the posts in that specific category.
I don’t know much, but to me that sounds like a PHP/Page issue…. right? Is this a bug? Do I get a prize? Or is this something that’s screwy with my WP install?
THANKS!
April 21st, 2008 at 11:52 am
Oh, and my site is now http://www.wordpressstudios.com
April 21st, 2008 at 8:15 pm
JayR…
I don’t think this is an issue with the theme… But have you modified or added any theme files? I tried using the default widget on my local install without any issues. Your tags are also screwed up which is why I think something is going wrong with something, but if you look at my demo, tags work fine. Please let me know if you modified or changed anything with the theme.
Also, which version of WP are you using? What plugins do you have installed?
Jason
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:16 pm
AdSense Manager, Akismet, Author Highlight, Fancy Zoom, WordPress Stats, WP-PostRatings, WP-PostRatings Widget. I also had Configurable Tag Cloud but deactivated hoping that would solve the issue, but it didn’t.
And I guess I don’t know what you mean by my tags not working. They display fine on the home page but when I click on a TAG or a CATEGORY they both, for some reason, display the same thing (even though the links are different).
I’m running WP 2.5
I’m going to try and disable all plug-ins and replace single.php with a fresh file (not that I changed it but just to make sure). Don’t worry about this issue as I’ll dig into it myself. I know you’ve got other things to do.

Will continue working on it though, still lot’s of stuff to do. Any feedback is welcome.
Once again, thanks for this wicked theme Jason.

Hiya. Just letting you know I’ve added the VideoFlick theme to our list of the best of the best Wordpress themes around the net: http://www.bestwpthemes.com. Great work!

Hi! I just purchased the theme, and I’m really loving it. I’m having a bit of a problem, though–
when I click on a video, it isn’t opening in a mediabox, it’s opening the original video page… for instance, if I try to link to a youtube video, clicking actually opens the youtube page. Any idea on why this is happening?

Figured it out…. it had something to do with some of the old content I had in my posts.

Just downloaded v1.2 is the only thing that changed the functionality for added sites or is there improvements to any other code?

This theme rocks. Thanks Jason. I’m using it to put up my video portfolio.
However, QuickTime videos won’t play until it loads the entire file. Is there a way to adjust script? I also want to make that the script will verify that the viewer’s cpu will have the proper QT player installed.
Thanks.

Never mind about the QT load… My own mistake. I forgot to check off “Prepare for Internet Streaming” in the QT export panel.

Jamison… The only change is the added video sites.
Bilal… Not sure why you would want to delete that space. It allows your users to scroll your content to eye level. But if you really want to remove it, edit your css and remove padding:300px; from th footer.

any coding heroes can give me an easy explanation how to make my videoflick theme without the sidebar like trailerflick.com but then add the sidebar three columns along the footer, right middle bottom….?
Or Jason you could just email the theme for trailerflick to me

Hey Jason,
On trailerflick i noticed you host all the trailers yourself, do you search site to site and convert the trailers into flv or is there a good site to find flv trailers you know of? Also your domain forwards or something are messed up for this domain, got a bounce.
