WPelements.com Now Running WordPress 2.5

WordPress 2.5 was officially released today, and in typical “Jason” fashion, I have already upgraded all my WP powered sites to the new version. First impressions are good so far. The new Admin control panel took me all of about 5 minutes to get used to. The biggest improvement I have found so far from an authoring standpoint is that adding media (images, audio and video) is ten times easier with a slick new ajaxified interface. So far, things are looking good, and I have found that all my themes are compatible with no changes necessary. More from WordPress.org below…

“WordPress 2.5, the culmination of six months of work by the WordPress community, people just like you. The improvements in 2.5 are numerous, and almost entirely a result of your feedback: multi-file uploading, one-click plugin upgrades, built-in galleries, customizable dashboard, salted passwords and cookie encryption, media library, a WYSIWYG that doesn’t mess with your code, concurrent post editing protection, full-screen writing, and search that covers posts and pages.”

Head over to WordPress.org to get your version 2.5 now…

I do like the 2.5 alot, i love the stats plugin you can get for the dashboard. But yet i still hate the dashboard. I know they worked hard on making it better and nicer than the older one but it still has that “wordpress” look and feel to it. The admin theme i was using with 2.3 didnt work with 2.5 so im forced to look at the wordpress for a little more time. The only admin theme i can seem to find is “fluency” wich looks just awsome but becouse its css2 alot of people wont really benifit from it untill ie-8 is out. When using the fluency the stats plugin has a scroll bar wich is the only downside i see, im sure thats an easy fix though.

sorry i took all the comment room :) lol

im yet to upload - bit worried as this is my first wordpress new update, but should be pretty simple

by the sounds of it - i cant wait to try out the new easier stuff…

  3. Jason Says:

Eric… 2.5 does take a bit of getting used to, but I think overall, the new admin control panel is an improvement. I think you will find that over the next few months all your gripes about 2.5 will probably be fixed.

hmmm seems pretty much like 2.3 not that much different.. have to say the upgrading plugins with one click is pretty useful as its a tad quicker…

  5. Eric Hamby Says:

i think so to Jason, im already getting used to it and liking it more. i love the function and layout of it now i really do, but i still think the looks are horrid.

and Dean i agree the one click update of plugins is very useful. though i have found 2 plugins i cant get it to work with,

Wp-Stats and Wp-usersonline. i had to go download the new versions and install them myself.

    arf…

i am no longer able to use “massive news” theme with this v2.5
do you guys have the same problem ?

  7. Jason Says:

Julio… What issues are you having with the massive news theme in 2.5? I have tested the theme with no issues on my end.

  8. Eric Hamby Says:

Whey guys i decided to fix up the login page a bit, take a look

@julio, i tried massivenews with mine and it looks ok. cound be a plugin problem, i have had to stop using a few and get new ones.

  9. Julio Says:

    mea culpa
it was just a cache problem:
i just had to empty cached pages and it is now working fine…

  10. Jay Says:

For some reason my Featured Gallery Plugin isn’t working in 2.5 it just shows me the loading screen. Any idea why that might be?

  11. Ian Mikutel Says:

    Jason,

Thanks for pointing out in this post that all your themes are compatible with 2.5, I’ve posted letting all your Massive News Theme users know in the comments on that post. As someone who uses the theme and enjoys it, I will now upgrade with confidence to version 2.5.

For anyone interested, Teli Adlam at optiniche.com did a fabulous post comparing 2.5 vs 2.3, I suggest anyone checking it out who hasn’t already, its very informative.

Are you talking about 2.5 RCI or 2.5 RC2 ?

RC1 works fine, but the latest RC2 has some major issues, unrelated to themes. I almost killed my entire blog with RC2 and only saved it by going back and integrating a RC1 file into RC2. Some ppl have completely hosed their blog content on RC2.

Plus, they still haven’t put the ID numbers back on posts in Admin, which makes it difficult to mod themes that require category numbers :/

  13. cstina Says:

If anyone longs for the ID Numbers that were in 2.3 for posts, I found a 2.5 plugin to view IDs again:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/reveal-ids-for-wp-admin-25/

It’s helpful if you want to do advanced mods.

  14. Tony Says:

The entire admin interface is much cleaner in 2.5. At WordCamp Dallas, Matt talked about hiring the design gurus from Happy Cog Studios to rework it.

  15. Dudu Tomaselli Says:

The featured article carousel was not working for me with 2.5.
I deactivated the Lightbox JS v2.03.3 plugin and everything worked fine.
If someone has the same problem, try deactivating your plugins one by one.
