Introducing the “Massive News” WordPress Theme
The Massive News WordPress theme is my first attempt at providing a premium theme for a not so premium price, FREE. Massive News is a two column Widget enabled theme which is very clean, fully customizable and very simple to use.
View the LIVE DEMO…
Featured Content Carousel
The fully automated featured article carousel is one of the many premium features of the Massive News WordPress theme. Featured article images, Links and Descriptions can easily be edited through the Massive News control panel within your WordPress installation.
Fully Featured Control Panel
Virtually every aspect of the Massive News Theme is editable through the theme control panel including sidebar items, carousel component and much more. This makes most theme customizations as easy as possible without having to edit theme files directly.
How to use the Post Thumbnail Feature
Using the Post Thumbnail feature is actually very simple. Upload a 140×140 pixel image that you want to use as your post thumbnail. After the image has been uploaded, place your html image tag within the “Optional Excerpt” field.
License & Download
I am offering the Massive News Theme free of charge this time around just to test the waters. Upon download, you agree that in no way shape or form that the Massive News Theme files will be Re-Sold or Re-Distributed. Also, please leave credit where credit is due.
In order to install the Massive News theme, download the package below, unzip, and upload the directory titled MassiveNews to your “wp-content/themes” folder.

Thanks. Let me know if you need any assistance with setting it up.
January 18th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
Jason,
Absolutely amazing. Honestly, I was looking for the “purchase” button.
Thanks!
January 18th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Thanks… This is hopefully just the beginning of many free themes to come. Also, I updated this post to show Massive News Theme users how to use the Post Thumbnail feature.
January 24th, 2008 at 9:14 am
Jason,
This looks great! I agree with Jason S. hopefully this is just the beginning of free themes. I’m not saying that in a cheap way. You have talent and it should be paid for.
January 24th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Looks good, but you should really include a demo.
January 25th, 2008 at 5:42 am
Great suggestion. I will get a demo up as soon as I can. Thanks.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
Yeah, I agree with ROB. It would be better if you could provide a live preview. Congratulations on your first theme release, Jason
January 28th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
OMG, this is a great theme, so much thanks, I foun new theme from my blog
January 29th, 2008 at 4:15 am
Hey there Jason,
Great job on the theme, looks like something I could really use. I do however have one question:
In the license terms you say “you agree that in no way shape or form that the Massive News Theme files will be Modified…”. How far does that extend?
Out of necessity I would have to change some things in the code, for example the page links in the header as I have sub-pages set up, which breaks the general design, as well as the categories as I have way to many to fit. As far as I can see, there is no sub page menus either, which I would need.
There are of course a number of other minor tweaks I would do if I were to use it, CSS types/colors, BG colors and the like. Perhaps a header image as well.
I do respect any terms set, though I would assume that the usage of the theme will be very limited if no customizations what so ever are allowed?
(feel free to look at my test site linked to see my issues)
Again, great job on the theme.
January 29th, 2008 at 5:27 am
Two minor quirks I found while poking around, apart from the above:
- Sideblog articles also gets featured in the main listing (Asides)
- No “edit” shortcut on posts even though I’m logged in on admin
January 29th, 2008 at 6:04 am
I will be changing the license terms so that you can freely modify the theme to suit your needs. I am primarily trying to protect it from being modified and redistributed or sold. Also, I will be taking all your comments into consideration when putting together the next Massive News Theme release.
January 29th, 2008 at 6:19 am
Sweet, cheers Jason
I fully understand your reasons from a business perspective, I forgot to mention that my interests at the moment are strictly personal as I just run a small game blog
Oh, found another small bug, your footer info is miss linked.
Anywho, after some basic testing I’d say I’ll go with this theme with some tinkering, thanks a lot. Looking forward to see what else you’ll come up with.

The non-commercial is from distributing standpoint?
Great theme, thanks

Hello there!
Great theme. I gave it a testrun and encountered a small problem. In the featured content carousel are five small frames. I suppose that a small image should be in there, but in my testrun they stay empty?
How can I add an image into them?
Thanks and great work!!!
February 1st, 2008 at 11:10 am
Hey Jason,
First I want to start off by saying I absolutely love this theme.
Although right now I feel like an idiot- lol- I cannot seem to figure out how you have gotten the demo ‘Featured Stories’ to look so wonderful [unless its not implemented in the download] if you can help me out any way possible that would be fantastic. I am currently running it on my site as I try to configure it to my need. Thank you, and once again, great work!
Samantha

Awesome theme! Indeed.. a couple of bugs but that, for me, does not take away beauty of it. This theme rocks hard! Love the way you handled the back-end, not having to go into code mode and all
I will use this theme for sure on one of my projects!
February 2nd, 2008 at 9:48 am
Yup as Acacia pointed out the footer links come out all screwy
they come out as a double URL with the blog address and your address making all links produce a 404 not found error.
As it is currently no links will link back to you unless the author knows to manually change it
February 2nd, 2008 at 9:51 am
Click on Samantha’s links above to see the problem in the footer links
February 3rd, 2008 at 2:26 am
Wow this is a great theme i have just paid 89 dollars for Revolution from Brian Gardner. but this one is just the perfect theme.. Thanks so much for a great theme..
February 6th, 2008 at 6:30 am
Hi Jason..thnx for this great theme..i’ve the same problem with samantha..the featured stories section is static, dont work correctly.what may cause this and what did u suggest to fix it.
Thanks again..
February 6th, 2008 at 7:39 am
Hey Bilal. If you are talking about the featured content carousel, you need to edit all the fields provided on the Massive News Theme Options Page. Check out the link below for an example screenshot.

You can also find a demo here.

February 6th, 2008 at 8:15 am
Thanks Jason. I try ur theme in two different blogs of mine.the carousel works fine with english version of wp but it fails in turkish version.maybe this causes the problem. you can see it in dizaynrehberi.com..
Thanks again..
February 6th, 2008 at 8:30 am
Bilal, it looks like you are using a few plugins including WP Post ratings and some others. The scripts used in these plugins might be interfering with the scripts I use for the content carousel. Try disabling your plugins and see if it works.
February 6th, 2008 at 9:29 am
thanks for ur quick replies jason..”share this” plugin cause the problem..it works fine now..thnx
February 6th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Thanks for the great theme. Can’t wait for the video theme, if the price (and the value) meet my budget, that will be the 4th paid premium themes in my collection. Cheers!
February 6th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
i get this message
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_tag_cloud() in /home/mcfall/public_html/wp-content/themes/MassiveNews/sidebar.php on line 7
and nothing shows in the side bar?
February 6th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Hi Jason, Great Theme, well done.
I have a problem and maybe simple to sort, i installed the theme but all my categories show above the carousel and below the Blog title, how do i disable this.
i have disabled all my plugins but i still have the same problem.
your help would be gratefully appreciated.
February 8th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
What an awesome theme! Using a Mac. Was hoping you could help me with Safari browser issue though. I created a brand new test blog with WP 2.3.2, and loaded the carousel with one photo and a description. No plugins. Worked fine with Safari browser and Firefox Browser. Then I upgraded to WP 2.3.3 and brought up blog again in both browsers. No other changes. Firefox works ok, but now, Safari is not displaying the description of the feature story in the carousel. Instead, I get what looks like 5 empty grey frames at the top of the photo. Any ideas to fix theme so it will work on Safari w/ WP 2.3.3?
February 8th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Couple of comments about previous post that I forgot to mention. I’m running Leopard 10.5.1 OS, and running Safari v3.0.4 (5523.10.6) .
February 9th, 2008 at 9:08 am
Not a big deal, but the carousel refused to work when I first used it. Then I found out the plugin “optimize DB” was causing this, once I disabled it the carousel function worked.
February 9th, 2008 at 9:40 am
I am currently working on a few bug fixes for the Massive News theme to take care of some of the issues described above, including updates to the featured content carousel to make it play nice with other plugins. Thanks for all your comments.
February 9th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
hey, greate work ^^
perhaps you can integrate a function to upload the necessary images immediately by the menu?
thx from germany
February 9th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Wow this is absolutley amazing man. Please keep up the good work and thanks for releasing this for free, its better then all of the paid magazine / newspaper themes I have looked at.
I will be using this for my school newspaper, you just helped us out a ton, again I cannot thank you enough. Looking forward to more of your work.
February 9th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
In this screen you have “Massive News Options”.
http://www.wpelements.com/massivenews.jpg
I installed the theme per instructions, and have searched for plugins on this page. Am I missing something? Because “Massive News Options” is not there.
Cheers for the great theme.
February 10th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Love the theme, thanks.
I’m a relative WP noob and have a few questions:
1. How do I set up the archives correctly?
2. How do I change the font of my page title (can you replace it with an image)?
3. How do I remove links from the navigation bar?
February 12th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Wow!!! Slick, clean amazing theme “Congratz”!!
Can you possibly help me with the ad block? “Massive News Option” >> scroll down >> Paste your ad tag below… This is when i get stuck, Do i input all the code Google adsense gives me? Nothing shows up, I must be doing something wrong.
Also having the ad block empty with no ad tag and viewing the blog i dont see the square ad block is this cause there is no code?
Again i cant stress this enough - Thankyou for an amazing theme!
February 12th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Hi there, I really like the theme. I’m pretty new to the .com scene so bear with me. I wanted to use the massive news theme for my site and am having issues like not finding it in my presentation option of WP admin area.
Any ideas? I did use an Filezilla FTP manager to upload it to wp-content/themes and unzipped it there. Gave it permission of 744. Was that ok?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
February 12th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
I’m having the same problem as Andrew with the ad block. When I paste a 300×250 AdSense code into this area nothing shows up on the site. How do you incorporate and ad into the 300×250 ad block?
February 12th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Ethamm
Simply go to the WP admin control panel, click the presentation tab, then you will see the massive news options as a sub tab.
February 12th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Ryan
All the thing you are asking about would require you to edit the theme files. Feel free to modify massive news to fit whatever site you will be using it for.
February 12th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Andrew and Ryan… The advert block has been tested with google adsense code, and yes it should be as simple as pasting that code into the field provided within the massive news options page. I will double check and make sure nothing funky happened with the latest release I uploaded.
February 12th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Gios, it sounds like you did everything right. Just make sure that the “MassiveNews” folder and all files are within the “wp-content/themes” folder on your server and you should be good to go.
February 12th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Thanks for the response Jason, but copy and pasting the ad code didn’t work. I simply created a text widget and pasted a 300×250 ad it into that, no worries.
I don’t expect you to tell me exactly how to do it, but in order to put a graphic (logo) at the top of the page where the title now resides I suppose I would need to edit Header.php?
Do you have any recommendations as to what dimensions a logo image should be that would go at the top of the page?
Thanks for all the time you’ve spent on this.
February 13th, 2008 at 12:26 am
Thanks for the quick response Jason!! You are a machine! Regarding the Adblock something might have gone funky / No worries for the mean time i will add a text widget like Ryan did. Thnx again!
February 13th, 2008 at 4:18 am
Hi, I’m from Argentina. I am working in a music blog with some friends and I´m trying your theme. It´s just fantastic. Thanks for it.
I want to ask you about the Slideshow on the top. It´s not working. Can you help me? Thanks you!
February 13th, 2008 at 7:31 am
Nice.
Attention: Not compatible with lightbox-plugin!!!!
February 13th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Thanks.
The solution was there. I turned it off and the slideshow started ti work.
Are there any solution to use lightbox with this theme? I use it in a gallery.
By
February 13th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
thanks, this is a amazing theme!
February 13th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Hey Nicolas
Unfortunately, the slideshow scrips I use for the featured content carousel don’t play nice with other scripts. But depending on the lightbox solution you are using, you should be able to get it to work. Try a lightbox that uses mootools rather than scriptaculous and it should work.
February 13th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Hi jason
great job! ive looked at a lot of themes this is awsome. I am new to word press
so ill fiddle about some before I ask any heavy questions, but I have one now, I dont see anywhere on the pages to get into my admin panel??

Did not work.
February 14th, 2008 at 10:56 am
I need help setting this up….anyone feel compassion towards a WP noob???
February 17th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
dear jason;
In IE 6, the posts seem to flow into the post below each other…any idea why the boxes don’t accommodate the text correctly?
February 18th, 2008 at 4:08 am
Hey there Jason me again, any chance you can give me a brief idea on how to add my own logo? Struggling a little, probs easy?!
February 18th, 2008 at 4:17 am
Ignore my previous post / sorted it out! Just needed to look a little harder! Again again i cant praise you enough for such an awesome theme!!!!
February 18th, 2008 at 6:55 am
ES… I thoroughly tested the original Massive News Theme in IE 6, but I will double check the latest version today to see if something went wrong. Thanks for the heads up.
February 18th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Jason,
Thanks for the response. Allow me to send you the link to check out.
please send me an email and I’ll forward the link.

February 18th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
hi. i tried yout theme. its enthisuastic. but i hava a problem. when i look at your site there ara thubnails. in this site http://www.wpelements.com/demos/massivenews/ called tmag-intro.jpg.
if you look at http://www.dipdalga.com i couldnt add thumbnails like them.
would u please help me.
February 18th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Jason,
What’s happening is that some of the text of the article/post is populating the space, where the #introIMG DIV goes. I assigned an image to that DIV in style.css, and while the image loads, so does the text appear on top of the image as well. The image dimensions are set in the css file as well.
The ‘overflow’ seems to occur with the image as well, regardless on the amount of text entered into a post.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Dear Jason,
I seemed to have fixed the problem. I had to comment-out this function “” around line 18 to prevent the text from showing up in the #introIMG DIV.
I then had to work with styleie.css to trick IE into positioning the #introIMG DIV, and the margins of .post and .entry. Here is what I added to this css file:
#introIMG
{
background-image:url(images/image.jpg);
position:relative;
}
.post {
margin: 0 0 0 0;
}
.entry {
height: 100%;
}
This seemed to work for me, and I cannot say that these settings will work with other’s blogs.
February 19th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Hi there,
thank you very much for the theme. It is great. Question: Is the add banner a widget that you drag in the sidebar. Because it doesn’t show up in the default sideba?
Thanks again
Anastasios
February 23rd, 2008 at 9:09 am
Hello,
good work and pretty theme.
I’m having a problem in IE6 / IE7. The carousel renders good, but some javascript error is showed: “Incorrect type in line 520″
Some idea to avoid this?
Thank you very much
February 24th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Great theme Jason! This gives a lot of premium magazine themes a run for their money. Like Brennan said ^ ^ ^ ^ I was also looking for the “Purchase” button.
Question:
Is there a way to keep the post from splitting/duplicating from left to right? I was thinking, maybe the only remedy was to input an image in the post to fill the left side? But, I tried that and the image fails to appear on the front page….and the post is still duplicated. Hrm.
Example here: http://cstina.com/blog/
Thanks
February 25th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Anastasios
The ad banner within the sidebar can be managed through the massive news theme options. If you use widgets, all default sidebar items will be replaced.
February 25th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Pedja
I use Smooth Gallery for the content carousel which can be found at http://smoothgallery.jondesign.net/. I am aware of the 520 error caused by the smooth gallery scripts and have emailed the creator. Will let you know if I hear anything.
February 25th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Cstina
Your example is show duplicate split posts because you have not added a post thumbnail within the optional excerpt field for each of your posts as described above in this entry. If you wish to disable this, you will have to edit the theme files directly. In particular, the CSS and the main index loop.
February 25th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
I really love the theme! congrats and cant wait for the Video one! You definatly are the man lol
But! I have same trouble as everyone else all my categories show up under the logo and mess the whole site up! Anyway to fix this?
Ta and appreciated!
February 26th, 2008 at 7:52 am
For those not getting Lightbox to work, try “Post-thumb revisited” (http://www.alakhnor.com/post-thumb/). I haven’t upgraded to the newest version yet, but version 1.48 works very well with this theme for a lightbox-ish effect (even better imo).
I just finished the main part of my modification and for those trying to apply this (great) theme to an existing blog and have some know-how, I would recomend changing the optional excerpt images to custom fields instead. I have three years worth of posts (280 of them to be exact) and the prospect to add an image to every single one of them felt kinda daunting.
Now I just have some minor stuff to sort, like an archive page etc
Thank you again Jason for an excellent theme!
February 26th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Hello,
Your script uses Smooth Gallery. Thanksfor using it, in this really good theme.
However, Smooth Gallery is GPL software.
You released your theme in a restrictive creative commons license.
When you include a gpl product in your code, it becomes a derivative product.
So you should be releasing your theme as GPL and not under this restrictive license.
Best regards,
Jonathan Schemoul
February 26th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Hi. i love the theme, but how do a make the Featured artical random instead of going from 1 artical to the last on i whant they to be random
February 26th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Jason,
Any clue what’s going on with the carousel area on my blog with your theme? All 3 .js files are uploaded in the directory with all the other .php files. As you can see, it’s “massively” messed up. :p
Thanks,
Ian
February 27th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Hm, I just noticed a script error:
Line: 521
Char: 4
Error: Type mismatch.
Code: 0
The error doesn’t activate until the Carousel initiates the first loop. Or, if the Carousel is not loaded (in default state), then the error will initiate when the right arrow is clicked.
The script still runs without a hitch, but the error remains in the browser status bar.
Ideas on how to remedy this? Thanks.
February 27th, 2008 at 5:09 am
just like to say congratulations on the theme
its gold!
February 27th, 2008 at 7:22 am
IAN,
Usually some plugins cause this problem if u are sure post the enrties correctly.just try to disable podpress plugin or the other plugins one by one to see which one is cause the problem..
February 27th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Does anyone know how to embed videos on this on the front page instead of having to click inside the post?
February 27th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Jay… I am not exactly sure what is causing the categories layout issue for some users, but I will definitely look into it.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Hey Jonathan… I will change the license to GPL, no problem. Thanks for letting me know, and it is a wonderful script. I am currently in the process of making a plugin out of this script as well.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:27 am
IAN… Have you modified any of the theme files?
February 27th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Cstina
The script error you are seeing is caused by the SmoothGallery scripts I use for the featured content carousel. I am working to find a resolution.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Bilal,
Thanks for the advice, however, I’ve turned off every plugin installed, one by one, and nothing changed.
Anyone else have a clue?
Thanks,
Ian
February 27th, 2008 at 11:31 am
Jay… You would have to change the CSS and the main loop on the index page to directly embed videos on the front page. Or you can use “mediabox” from http://iaian7.com/webcode/Mediabox which is how I do it on massivepress.com.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Hey Jason Question: I’m using Statspress and i always see guests on this page /wp-content/themes/MassiveNews/images/li.gif OR /test.jpg.
So the Images are always li.gif or test.jpg when viewing stats… Searching the theme “Images” folder does not have those images.
Looking at the source I see you have this line and it seems to fall under the featured article section.
After all that back my question haha What are those files for? can i change them? test.jpg or li.gif
February 27th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Hmmm looking at the source u have this line “”
February 27th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
Jason,
The theme files for Massive News? No I have not.
-Ian
February 27th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Cheers bro! You defo still the man. One more thing though that pop up that comes up when you hover saying read more what plugin is that if you dont mind sharing.
And i didnt realize you where the dude behind psp magazines! I remember when i first got my psp on import to the uk and you where like the first dude to start anything worth downloading lol you come a long way!
February 27th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Jay,
I tested this theme with embedded videos and it works great! You can view them directly from the front page without going inside the post.
For example (with YouTube), I inserted the full embed tag into the “Optional Excerpt” section. I just wanted to see what happened if I put video in there… instead of a 140×140 image. The largest video I could squeeze in there was about 180×170… small, but I like them that way on the front page.
I was also able to embed larger videos in the sidebar by inserting the embed tag into a table (centered) and placing that code into a Text Widget.
If you want to embed the video directly into the post text (and neither of the above 2 options), you can wrap the code in tags, directly into your post text and (in Code view) and it will also play from the from page.
February 27th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Jason,
Thanks for the heads up on the SmoothGallery error. I’ll be checking back to see if there’s a resolution
February 27th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Sorry, edit to Jay above ^ ^.
My comment lost the tag that I typed.
In the last paragraph, it should have said:
“you can wrap the code in tags..” (Pre tags)
February 28th, 2008 at 3:10 am
Jason or anyone, please help!!! Im trying to add a “nextpage” on a post, I see the button but previewing the post has NO nextpage.
Wordpress mentions i must add sum code in index.php, I’ve tried and i just cant seem to get it to work.
February 28th, 2008 at 7:45 am
Cstina thanks very much for info! I think i will use that small video and the Mediabox option that Jason said as well! This gives me both options.
Appreciate the help! Now all i need to know is about that hover option that Jason has just so if i use media box people will know its a video not an image lol
February 28th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Yo Jason, if you know any where that explains how to incorporate the mediabox player into wordpress? I think im doing it all wrong and its driving me crazy. Its like the last thing i need to sort before my blog goes live lol
Appreciate if you know anywhere!
February 28th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Hi, I have your theme up and just starting to give it a go, but I don’t understand a few things… I am trying to set up the carousel in the Options page. How does the Featured Image Location work? It looks like you need to input a URL, but all my images are on my computer. Thanks, M

It’s me again… even if I input a copied image from a website, I still get this error in the spot where the carousel should be:

Where are the archive parameters for this theme… the ones that are usually located in archive.php?
Thanks

Greetings,
Here comes the solution for the terrific Type mismatch error in IE:
change the line 520 in jd.gallery.js to:
this.carouselWrapper.elementScroller.scrollTo = (scrollPos,0);
Listo y sin errores
March 1st, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Pedja,
Thanks, that worked! (however)….
It worked with the Featured Gallery Plugin (standalone plugin). But not the Massive News Theme (with integrated plugin).
Meaning:
The comment in the FGP is located in jd.gallery.js on Line 520…. so I could mod it….perfect
But, in the MNT, the comment is not located at Line 520 in jd.gallery.js…. so I couldn’t mod it.
Is *this.carouselWrapper.elementScroller.scroll…..Line 520* in another place other than jd.gallery.js in the MNT? Or am I missing the mark completely?
Thanks!
March 3rd, 2008 at 5:19 am
CSTINA… review your jdgallery.js. The line 520 is the famous this.carouselWrapper.elementScroller.scrollTo(scrollPos,0); and you must change to this.carouselWrapper.elementScroller.scrollTo = (scrollPos,0);
I have Massive News Theme installed and it worked
March 3rd, 2008 at 7:57 am
Pedja,
You are right! I opened the file in Adobe Dreamweaver and it put a bunch-o-white space in there… so I was about 200 lines off :/
Thanks again for this fix

Categories are not showing up… any ideas?
Pages are fine but I am not able to add additional categories.
Thanks!
March 5th, 2008 at 6:38 am
Josh… Just out of curiosity, how many categories do you have? Also, have you edited the theme?
March 5th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Jason, Thanks for the theme; it’s works great and is very easy to customize.
Can I ask you one question about the carousel? I wanted to add some suckerfish menus, so grabbed Ryan Heller’s suckerfish menu plugin (http://ryanhellyer.net/2008/02/20/suckerfish-plugin-11-beta/).
All worked fine, except the drop-down menus get covered over by the carousel. Is there an easy way to temporarily disable the carousel while the drop-downs are visible?
Cheers, Bruce.
March 5th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Bruce… I’m not sure about that. I will have to take a look at the suckerfish plugin you are using.
March 6th, 2008 at 3:42 am
Plugins…
Some of them don’t play nice with this theme. Is there a workaround for that?
March 6th, 2008 at 5:32 am
Cstina… You should be happy to know that I am re-working the Massive News Theme from the ground up, and I expect to have a new version of it released by the end of March, which is probably when the WPE Gallery theme will be released as well.

Jason.
Like your theme a lot. However I have a question. To get the sideblog working I can only use the standard sidebar. As soon as I start to add widgets like a text wisget the sideblog dissapears. Is there a way to show the sideblog without using the standard sidebar. I noticed that article’s that I wrote fore the sideblog also show in the normal blog..
Regards from Holand
March 7th, 2008 at 9:03 am
Remco… At this point without editing the theme files, there is no way to use widgets and the sideblog at the same time. As I have mentioned above, I am re-working the entire theme from scratch. The next version will allow you to customize the look and feel in many different ways.
March 7th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Okay, this is weird.
When I write a Page, the sidebar looks fine….. positioned on the right:
http://cstina.com/blog/testpage
But when I create a Page with the Archives Template….. the sidebar is positioned under the content, and there’s an additional Search field:
http://cstina.com/blog/archives
I can play with Archives to fix this Search easily enough, but I’m not sure if the theme was coded (intended) to have the sidebar UNDER the Page content… was it? I’m not sure how to code Archives so the sidebar is on the right (as it is on the regular Pages) :/
March 7th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Jason,
Thnx for your fast replay. I have it working now with a sideblog plugin. I cant wait to download the new version..
Keep up the good work.

Well, first off, holy crap this is a sweet theme. It was 100% what i’ve been scouring the net for. Thank you so much for making this free. It’s an incredible theme. Very talented.
March 10th, 2008 at 7:04 am
Brandon… Thanks for you compliments. Stay tuned for v2 of the Massive News theme.
March 10th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Jason,
Could you please check out my page and see if you have a clue whats up? I can’t figure out why its not displaying the carousel properly for the life of me.
Thanks,
Ian

cool theme
March 13th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Hey, Awesome theme! I was wondering if there is a way to make the sideblog posts NOT appear in the main window?
March 13th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Did anyone else figure out how to prevent sideblog posts from showing up in the main list of posts? Jason I’m sure it’s no simple thing to fix. The theme is great and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Hopefully someone will share the love on how to restrict a certain cateogry from showing up in the main post list.
March 14th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
this prolly does a few things i’ve been wanting to do with my site so ima download it and check it out.
March 15th, 2008 at 1:56 am
Great theme but i got a problem about showing tags in single.php.When i added the code: ‘); ?> , i couldn’t get tags in single post.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:08 am
thank.
March 16th, 2008 at 1:16 am
Awesome job Jason. I love your site too! Just wanted to mention something I noticed: the Carousel doesn’t work with the “Revver Video WordPress Plugin.” Certainly not the end of the world, but I wanted to report it, in case it helps you troubleshoot.
Thanks for a great theme, and very useful plugins.
March 16th, 2008 at 7:14 am
This is an awesome theme. I have two problems. The search box doesn’t work. How can I change the font size in the header? The name of my blog is on two lines and I’d like for it to read on one line. If that means removing the search box, I’m fine with that.
Thanks.
March 16th, 2008 at 9:38 am
Jeff… Good to know. Stay tuned for V2 of the Massive News theme.
March 16th, 2008 at 11:08 am
Jason I figured out how to change the font size in the header but when I do that it cuts off the gray bar and half of my categories. Can you give me any advice on how to correct? Thanks.
March 18th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
On the preview here i see a place for a 300×250 ad but when i use the theme i dont see anything like that. how can i get the ad to show in something like you have here.
March 18th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
Hi Jason,
Thanks for your work, this theme is exactly what I was looking for.
I’m currently using it on WP 2.5-RC1 and it works fine.
I have some questions :
- Is there a way to display the tagline under the blog title ?
- How do you edit the carousel ? I would like to display 3 articles instead of five. I’d like to change the arrows and the time between each rotation too.
Thanks
March 19th, 2008 at 5:25 am
Henry… You will have to edit the JDgallery scripts directly to change those options.
March 19th, 2008 at 7:49 am
We love the theme and are using it right now. But we have problems with the rss-feed. Meaning: It’s only the the thumbnails and the title that are showing in the feed, and trying to use a widget like RSS Reader Widget from SpringWidgets, I just get the image, codes and the mp3 link in the story.
Can anyone help me?
March 19th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Thanks a lot for this great theme. It’s easy to customize. Thanks again.
I want to know which comment plugin are you using for your ‘Comment & Socialize” tab.
Thanks!
March 20th, 2008 at 3:28 am
Just a quick one,
whats the Featured Content Carousel code needed to pasted into the “page”.php to have it included on the pages where it is currently not?
also what .php pages does it need to be included on for this to happen?
March 20th, 2008 at 6:51 am
Another questio, where I can change the options for the Tag Cloud, i.e., I want to change the font size and the number of tags that appears.
Thanks a lot!
March 20th, 2008 at 7:18 am
Jarsonic… You just need to edit the “wp_tag_cloud” tag located within the sidebar.php file. In particular you need to edit “smallest=8&largest=22″ to the font sizes you want to use.
March 20th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Hi there and thank you for the excellent theme.
I have a question though concerning the display of authors. Is there a way to enable it or can you tell me what needs to be changed and how? I have to admit, I’m relatively clueless about PHP except to learn as I go, so thanks for any help.
March 21st, 2008 at 3:33 am
Thanks Jason, this theme is what I was looking for!!!
I like very much your works!
March 21st, 2008 at 7:33 am
Jmax… I would recommend looking at the official WordPress Codex for template tags which can be found here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags
In particular, you need to add the author tag in whichever loop where you want the author to be displayed.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/the_author
March 21st, 2008 at 9:28 am
You couldn’t help me with the rss? I’m I doing something wrong?
The problem was that the feed only shows the thumbnails and some code, not any index text at all.
March 22nd, 2008 at 4:35 am
Rawky
as far as i know it only shows the images in firefox, in internet explorers rss feeds it shows all the text tooo
March 23rd, 2008 at 6:02 am
Anyone know why the pagination doesn’t work.
March 23rd, 2008 at 9:17 am
Michael… Pagination should be working just fine. I am using the standard pagination tag direct from the official WordPress codex.
March 23rd, 2008 at 10:35 am
The codes I use are the standard codes - they worked fine in Mimbo template, but when I switched to Massive, the article doesn’t use it. In the in the post view while editing, it shows the ‘‘ line, but not when the page is displayed the article stops.
I even took out any html formatting to rule it out.
Strange - the same article worked fine in all other templates.
I like the theme so much that I will just live with a longer article.
March 23rd, 2008 at 12:40 pm
I think I see the issue - in single.php you are missing the part for the pagination.
You had only the_content and nothing else.
I took this from the Mimbo template and replaced the simple line the_content
with this:
<?php the_content(’Read the rest of this entry »’); ?>
‘Pages: ‘, ‘after’ => ”, ‘next_or_number’ => ‘number’)); ?>
I’m no expert, so please correct me if I’m wrong.
Hope this helps.
March 23rd, 2008 at 12:43 pm
The comment editor is removing part of the post - interpreting as html -
Just look at the single.php code in the default template and I think you’ll see what I mean.
Thanks

DEAN:
No, sorry, it’s the same in both IE, Firefox and Safari - regardless of OS.
It looks like this:

Thanks for a fantastic theme. This was exactly what we were looking for for a project.
Can we run only 1 featured content instead of 5? And how would we go about doing that? Tried leaving the entries empty for the rest of ‘em, but didn’t work..
March 26th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Hi Jason,
Just checking in…. do you still think the new release will be out by late this month? I’m running RC1 on my test blog and auditing new plugins… so before I go “plugin crazy,” I’m waiting to see how your new release might handle the compatibilities. I can’t wait to give the new one a whirl.
Thanks!
March 27th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Jason,
I’ve got my new blog up and running using your theme. I’ve modded it a bit, widening the page and increasing fonts and messing with other CSS parameters.
I think you mentioned before a new version of this layout was coming, updated quite a bit? Can you give any more information on that, perhaps a screen shot, or description of some features or a time frame?
Best,
Ian
March 28th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Jason, great theme, just got is all running tonight but one question. I want to still display my blogroll in the sidebar, as well as your ad space controlled through the dashboard. Is this possible? As soon as I add a widget to the sidebar (i.e. Blogroll) I lose all your great sidebar work….help?
March 29th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

Hello Jason. Big Thanks for this theme. The best of all theme of WP. I have one question, please answer.
I would like to stretch main layout “main content”.
I change in css style #main{ width to 800px and #singlemain{ to 800px. But /* sidebar */ out to footer. What I must change ? Where fix size for content and sidebar ?
Big thanks.
